We have just bought our first T25, its a 1.9 petrol manual 1988
It was serviced by the owner days before we bought it and new oil put in gearbox
We drove it home about 50 miles no prob. but when we parked up there was oil all over the engine, on checking it out we found it was transmission oil which seems to be coming from the bellhousing we assume it needs a new seal and have looked on line but can not work out which one we need or do you think it could be something else

Also if we have to replace the seal would it be wise to replace others at same time if so what do we need to buy?
O.H also thinks it may need a new release bearing because its making a noise when pulling away

Hmmmm,,,,,sounds to me like the gearbox has been running with just enough oil to keep it happy, but once the owner has found the level to be lower than expected (then topped it up) it has now managed to find its way out.
My guess is the spigot shaft seal must have been running dry till the extra oil has managed to find its way to places it hasn't been to for a while, the result may be as you have found with gear oil finding its way along the spigot shaft then being flung every where....

If it is gear oil ( a heavy oil smells a bit like cat pi$$) the box will have to come out to repair it so while it is out a new clutch kit (including thrust bearing) would be a wise purchase.

PS, Don't forget to check the spigot bearing in the end of the crankshaft,,,,,,these can make silly noises due to lack of grease etc.

Yep def. gear oil smell and sounds like you are correct there was even oil splashed over back door of van.
