hi im thinking of using the aerosoll to spray some of the more tricky bits and rollering the larger areas, has anyone tried this?.would i get different effects orwould it look the same as long as i prepped rite? cheers billy

I thought adsactly the same thing as you, as I also wanted to paint the parts that the roller would not reach. I ended up rolling the hightop, and spraying the rest.

I used at most 8 cans at 4.99 each, so it is a bit more expensive, the colour choice is limited. I dont know if you can have the paint mixed.

I am very happy with the finish, and will do a second coat next year.

When you start spraying you wont want to stop, but it will blend with rollering, you would just have to leave all to dry for a week or so, and then flat back and polish.

If you are gonna do it then I will try and think of some useful tips.

You can get into all the nooks and crannies with a can.

I should say aswell that I used combicolour spray cans, very good value.

I like spraying my with proper kit myself but my neighbours are getting more pedantic (Just damned un-neighbourly) over the years so I may think about rollering although with spraying I only rub down on the undercoat and spray to a finish and worry about all this rubbing down between coats I hear of. To be honest if IMHO you are having to rub down between coats it ain't going well. However if you do use cans try someone like A R Davies who fill cans to manurfacturers spec or you own chosen colour. I believe this would (should) be a more economical way to buy paint.

i got an aerorol to test the colour b4 i bought a tin and find it goes on great. if i can roller and spray that will be so much easier. thanks for the help and all tips are apreciated.

Not sure an aerosol can give good indication of how paint will go on if applied by other means. Specially rollering as I would guess the viscosity would be much different. If I understand your post correctly that is.

If you are talking about combi colour then I found the tin to be the same colour as the can.

Tips for spraying combicolour.

1. Spray on a day with no wind, or indoors. Preparation is everything.
2. Get a piece of single core wire, and feed it around under any window rubbers, this lifts the rubber up, when you wiggle the wire to the right place, makes masking easier, gets paint under the rubber, looks ace as you get that window out look.
3. Have a bucket of hot water to hand and have your cans bobbing in it to increase the can pressure.
4. The pressure drops dramatically at about 1/2 full, this results in a smaller splatterier spary pattern, so have a bucket of just boiled water for the emptier cans, spray the big areas with a new can, and save the edges, fiddly bits, bottom edge for the emptier ones.
5. Spray side to side, then up and down. Never random spray, as the combicolour creeps flat after about 2 or 3 minutes, and you will have sprayed too much on if you do not follow a pattern, and have unsightly runs, going side to side etc gives the paint a flash dry before next layer comes on, much less runs.
6. Use a razor blade to scrape paint of windows.
7. Use a mask.
8. It still takes over a month to really go properly hard. Then you can polish out any runs.
9. It took me 20 minutes to spray one side of the van!!!

Thats all I can think of at the mo!!
