what are you expecting?
With the 4 speed box I cruised at 65 and got great mpg.
Any more higher top gear than that and you will be constantly changing down to a lower gear.

I don't know if you have a tach, or the transmission has been replaced, but with my 5 speed, at 55 mph the motor is turning 3600 rpm. I have only gone 65 a couple times trying [the operative word here is trying] to pass someone who, incrediably was going slower than me.
Rubybus, most people find a trans from an Aircooled model, They have tolerably taller gearing.
Thanks hello again

Many thanks for your replies I have aquired a box from an air cooled with a 4.86 final drive so that should do the trick.
