fuel economy

2ltr Aircooled = 200-250 miles per tank, (60 ltr tank I think). Is that normal?

Have a search on here. Lots of threads on this subjuct,
Most people get about 18 to 22 mpg for a camper. Depending on driving conditions.
My 2.1 Caravelle ( no interior ) will squeeze 27mpg on a long motorway run.

Sounds about rite....easy to do the math, fill her up...do the miles....fill her up again divide the litres by 4.546 to get gallons....divide your overall driven mileage by the gallons...MPG

I've been driving like that for months now. My rule is NEVER EVER press the accelerator unless you have no other choice and if you can back it off, do just that. In traffic on downward slopes I'm on brake only - out of gear.

You missed a few;
It's noisey
It's slow
People keep coming up to the drivers door and asking for a 99 and a choc ice
40mpg is just compensation for having to put up with it.

You would be deemed to be 'not in control of your vehicle' if you cruise in Neutral. Tish and pish to that! True but pish all the same!
Windows up, pick a speed and stay there, rev match, cruise in neutral whenever SAFE to do so. ie on a long motorway when going down an incline which will allow a constant speed to be achieved. France is great for that!
- engine speed to road speed - I try to keep the angle of both pointers as similar as possible. I can't recall precisely the position of both right now but it's about 3,000rpm and roughly 80kmh in 5th or thereabouts.
- I stay at a constant speed for as long as I can.

i put some slack in my throttle cable when i first got the bus,, to protect the engine really as it went like hell. it's a bit subdued now but i get around 25mpg all the time.

...and I also remember one of the contractors who does some metal work for my place of work is that the 1.6 TD also has a habit of breaking !!
