Couple of newbie questions ? wrong exhaust ?

Hi I've recently bought a 1985 left hand drive Westfalia which has been messed around with a bit in the engine compartment
From what people on here and a mechanic have said its a bit of a botch up of older and newer bits
Its a 2.1 watercooled with an LPG conversion and only has about 20 odd thousand miles on it since a new short engine was put in.
It runs and drives superbly but I'm slowly wishing I'd waited and bought a more standard camper as its looking more and more like I'm going to have problems buying parts for it
or at the very least identify what bits are from what year
Its in for a service today and I've already had the first phonecall to say he can't get the hose I wanted him to change as its discontinued
but at least he has identified what hose it is, so my first question is, if he has found a part number is there anywhere that supplies discontinued hoses ?
The other thing that has come up is the exhaust, he says that its the wrong year a 1986 instead of 1985 exhaust so there's nowhere to bolt the back box to
so he's saying its only a matter of time before it falls off
Whats difference between the two exhausts ? I must admit I havn't really had a look to see whats involved
but I'm a welder by trade so could I fabricate some sort of bracket or is it more complicated than that ? and if I can what do I bolt it to ?
Thanks in advance,
Steve
