with reference to the thread, guess you are right but usually when i call vw i get "obsolete part" as an answer. so thanks for the sarcasm i guess "why not try vw, i think they still stock em?" was a bit harder than copy and paste.

thanks
Stephan

No offense was intended by g60steve, myself, or cj. We weren't trying to yank your chain, but your timing was perfect. You just happened to be posting at the wrong time in the wrong place. The link to thread was because the experienced members know that VW van centre is best place to start. Yet every day it seems like someone posts wanting to know where to get something that GSF etc don't have and haven't check with VW van centre which does have it. There is more info in the link then simply calling VW for parts.. like van centre vs car centre. Like vagcat, how to find nearest van centres, etc.

Welcome to the forum. Have you joined the club yet?

Cheer up, there's lots of folk still here who had a 'rough' first post or 4 ... like the guys said VW really DO still have many parts .. often not in the UK or down at your local VW agent.

Do a search for VW van Centre or similar, enter your postcode and ring them up with the part number you've obtained from Vagcat. Asking a 20 year old about 25 year old vans they tend to take the easy option and say "No, that's obsolete" where-as if you ask for 025-123-456B (not a real number BTW  ) they don't have to think, just push the buttons.

Good luck, Ian.

Stephan, just a thought, if you cannot get them from VW / GSF etc, perhaps the engine re-con companies may either sell you some or at least tell you where you could buy them from.

try Elite ( http://www.elitevw.com/products.htm ) etc

the 1.9 bolts can be reused if you already have a set..
other than that its a set of chevy bolts with the holes reamed and the big end resized... standard practice for type 1 engines and so readily available..

yeah have not got any, it's becoming a bit of a chore finding some. i'd rather just get the stock 1.9 ones or some t1/3 ones.

I'd bet if you put a "wanted ad" up someone on here might have some used ones ?

Did you try the engine re-con outfits yet ?

Do you mean VW didn't have any at their local branch, or that they are obsolete?
Guess what, VW don't stock every part for every VW at every branch.
they have a massive wharehouse in the midlands where it's all shipped out from, and if they don't have it there is an even bigger one in germany.
So, VW may not have any at your local branch but can they get any in for you?

baxters right.

my local midlands VW mechanic said he could not get a MV inlet manifold gasket, from VW.

one call to the VW Van centre... and Milton Keynes is sending one over.
although the part is obsolete.. there are still some on the shelf
