Propex-won't blow cold air

Just bought a used propex X1 1600.
Works lovely on hot but the function to blow cool air isn't doing anything. There is power (red/black) and an orange wire (I assume the temp controller) but the online instructions show a 4th wire (purple).Theres a terminal for this on the control box but its empty. And no 4th wire in the loom going into the heater box....
Should I have a purple wire in there somewhere to make the cold air function work?

I have an old Propex X1 'Hot Box' in my van & it doesn't blow cool air. If the gas is turned off & I try to turn the Propex on with the thermostat set at zero, it attempts to fire up (2 or 3 clicks) then it turns itself off.
I don't think this is very important as only the air for the gas burner is drawn from outside the van. The air to be heated is drawn (ie. recycled) from inside the van. Therefore even ''cool'' air from the Propex will always be at ''room'' temperature. It can never be really cool.

how old is it? the old old didn't have the cold air blow function! is there a terminal in the heater it's self for the purple wire? if not it would appear that someone has at some point replaced the thermostat with a more modern one, possibly because the original failed was an obsolete part?

I think its true that the previous owner replaced the thermostat.Oh well, seems hard to imagine needing the cold air feature on a night like this heh heh!!!

the propex in the yellow van has the cold air option and like bowton lad i thought what's the point in that but actually it works very well to cool you down, as it moves the cold air low down up very handy but no where as good as open windows and doors!
