hi i have a 1.9 deisel AEF engine fitted in my bus.
when accelerating i get several flat spots throughout the rev range, they seem to be getting more frequent now.
anyone got any ideas.

air leak, dodgy injector/s, timing, poor fuel, blocked filter/s......

Sounds like the injector pump / turbo could need a service, expensive,
Try an additve first
Check the engine timing
Check all of the injectors and pipes

What's the history?

Is this new to you or has it just started doing this out ofthe blue?

Or has some work been done recently?

IF it's getting worse, suspect water in fuel (drain filter or replace filter).. or injector pipe leak (though you may not see fuel coming out), check pipes meticulously at the pump head

when i first fitted it about 18 months ago it had a flat spot on accelerating just a small blip, but it seems to be getting more frequent now, sometimes u get little puffs of smoke out the exhaust when it hits the flat spots.
its a non turbo engine.

How many hoses on fuel filter?
EGR still connected?
As above water in fuel?
Fuel pipe sucking in air?
Any leaks on top of fuel pump, pumps on AEF's are "pooh" beyond belief
If none of above check too see if timing is on the move(bottom pulley failing)

it seemed to get worse after i tried the old veggie oil in it.

but i dont run on that anymore i only tried it for a week or two.

the pumps on these are crap lucas ones, i may look for a bosch pump of a AAZ.

or i may even convert to a golf petrol engine.

diesels seem to be more hassle than they are worth, this is the third engine ive had in my bus.

the lucas pumps hate veg oil
add a fuel additive change fuel filter and check your air filter as well and take for a long drive and give it some beans to clear the crap out

Lucas pumps die much quicker than bosch ones on veg oil, only place for that is the bin. Have all the diesels been AEF's ? cos they are not very good. Fit a bosch pump.

i replaced the fuel and air filter and it runs lovely now, i cant belive the difference no more flat spots.
