Anyone know if thermocouples are still available for these??Or any spare parts, at all???

If this is the same Hot Springs heater that I have come accross in the dim and distant past the thermocouple has an iterrupter switch connected to it.
You press and hold the button whilst lighting it and use a switch to turn it off.
I would check that the connections & contacts for the switch are clean and tight and that the switch is in good working order - you can prove the switch by replacing it with a short cable link - remove the link to turn the heater off !
I dont know if spares are available , a good plumbers merchant may be able to match the thermocouple up if you wave it at them or try some one like BES http://www.bes.co.uk/products/021.asp (part no 7298 looks promising? )
Posting a picture of the heater may help with identification and further advice.

If its the heater Im thinking of Ive not seen one for over 15 years now!
It is a tall slim tank with a burner arrangement just like a fridge , the flue runs through the tank and out to a terminal just like an electrolux fridge.
I would guess they hold about a gallon of water , it takes a while to heat up - ok for washing up etc.

Is there a modern day equivalent
or do they still do them?

Got it to stay alight, with a bit of cleaning of the thermocouple/keeping the button pressed in for 30 secs, not 10 like it says.

Just found the bloody hot pipe aint connected to the pump......
needs a tee piece
I see what you mean about it taking a while to heat up!!!
I thought it was an instantanious[sp] type
To be honest I hadn't took must notice of it, cos it wouldn't light.......

Looks like the underslung tank leaks too!!!
Think I'll stick with the kettle

(got that in my motorhome for the shower and general hot water)

boiling a kettle for the washing up still is the easiest option though

As far as I can tell they are not made any more.

Kev - its not as big as it looks - it is no taller than a small electrolux fridge and the base is approx 10" x 7" . It takes up far less floor space than a Truma or Carver water heater.

Keep using the kettle .......
