How would I tell if my van is a long or short wheel base?
Edla needs a clutch - chap I just got a quote from needs to know long or short, so as to know if he can get her in his workshop?
I didn't know they were different size vans - they all look the same length lined up in a field! lol

I'm sorry, but unless someone corrects me all T3 'vans' including the Caravelle had the same wheelbase so a length measurement should suffice.
Perhaps he is thinking of the next model up - the LT?

Unless it's a coachbuild Gypsy or demountable Tyscher they're all virtually the same length.

There is no "long" or "short" wheelbase for a T25.. (yes I know a 16" syncro wheelbase is 20mm or whatever longer but that doesnt count!!)
They may well tell you that a caravelle wasnt made then too...

Personally I'd be VERY concerned that this muppet would manage to acquire and fit the correct clutch ... think how much time he'd spend (and charge you for) while he scoured the cab looking for the bonnet release and indeed the engine.

Their quote came in at nearly 100 squids cheaper than Mr Clutch...
And they said they don't use recon clutches. This will be a new clutch.
I am rather sceptical about all garages - I only wish I new enough to do repairs like this myself.

Have you phoned VW Elite ... they're down that neck of the woods.
I didn't think anyone still fitted recon clutches

a new Sachs or LuK 228mm clutch (later 1.9 and 2.1) is only £50 up here.

Sarah,
get a clutch kit delivered to you.....then take to somewhere to fit it. RKM in strood would be a good bet, and they have just moved into larger premises too!
The clutch centre in Strood next to morrisons has a little trade supplies office right next to it....that is where I got my last clutch from, but would be worth asking Ian for full details of his £50 supplier, coz never managed it that cheap down here.
Also, Elite will do it for you.....but you have got to get the van there, unless you want to pay a little for collection (they will collect - just tell them its with Emma's van, and get it round to me.....they will struggle with Sturla road especially with the numpty parking we have up there). They will also be able to get the kit etc etc

Make sure they check or replace the spigott bearing.......
As this is why I got my van so cheap (broken gearbox)..............
