Hi i'm about to drop the engine out of my 1.9 petrol camper, to repair the gaskets and seals.
I have disconnected every thing i need pipes, wires and cables.
Do i need to lower the gearbox to remove the engine?
Hope some one can advise

Disconnect the gearchange rod and startermotor, slacken the gearbox nose mount bolt and lower the gearbox to an angle where the engine can be slid out (I found 2 breeze blocks with a piece of ply on to be a good height

) supporting the box on said breezeblocks. Basically just so's you don't strain the driveshafts and clutch pipe.

Cheers for that Ian.
How low can you go with the engine and box, as i'm having problems with splitting engine from box.

Methinks you've missed summat, there's only the 2 bottom nuts at the back of the bellhousing and the top left nut and bolt and the 2 starter motor fasteners ... top one should be a socket head and a nut and the other just a nut.
If it's that much of a struggle drop them out together (see manual or wiki) and split them on't floor ... many folks take them out together anyway .... is it manual or automatic ? The biggest job's the CV bolts IF they've not been out before OR someone's rounded them off

Engine is out, i think it was just tight on bottom.
Its seems the problem was a broken inner stud. Few of the others look like they have signs of corrosion.
How do i get the broken stud out of the block?
I have tried a pair of vice grips but no luck.
Plus the sleeves have come off with the heads how do i seperate these?
thanks again

tap very gently on all sides of liner it should come away from head (with something soft eg. hide hammer or plastic hammer)
