Seat engine in my van. How do I find out which model it is?

Hi guys,

I've owned my T25 for about a year now, and had no problems with it....until now.

I know it has a Seat 1.6 Diesel engine fitted, but I don't know the exact model of the engine. Is there a way I can find this out?

I'm having a few problems and could ideally know the type of engine thats fitted so I at least have somewhere to start from.

It probably sounds really stupid, but all I can say to give folks a clue, is that the engine I have, has a long (approx 12") cylinder shaped air filter, or at least I think its an air filter  It sits right next to the oil breather on top of the engine and has a rather long spring that holds it in place.

Any help would be great and very much appreciated.

a photo would help!

Have a look at both sides of the engine and see if tyre is any writing on it. Is it a turbo?

Thanks for the reply Ringo.

I'll post some pics tomorrow.

Its a non turbo btw, and the problem I'm having has been caused by me I think.

I've put too much oil in the engine, and as a result, I'm getting grey smoke from the exhaust, and quite a lot of it too. Its happened a couple of times since my stupid mistake. I don't intend driving the van again until I've drained some oil off. I'm just hoping I've not caused any long term damage

Hmmmm.

Just monitor oil useage closely from now on.

Lets hope you got away with it...

Ringo

PS. I suspect you have a 1.9 fitted but i've been wrong many times before :)

4.5lt of oil with oilfilter change and 4lt without filter change
enginge number is on the block just under number 3 injector this will tell you exactly what engine u have
grey /white smoke will be unburnt fuel not oil as oil will be mostly blue hope this helps

also if you look at the block on the exhaust/inlet manifold side near enough in the middle will say 1.6d or 1.9d ect in inch high letters
