Seat engine in my van. How do I find out which model it is?

Hi guys,
I've owned my T25 for about a year now, and had no problems with it....until now.
I know it has a Seat 1.6 Diesel engine fitted, but I don't know the exact model of the engine. Is there a way I can find this out?
I'm having a few problems and could ideally know the type of engine thats fitted so I at least have somewhere to start from.
It probably sounds really stupid, but all I can say to give folks a clue, is that the engine I have, has a long (approx 12") cylinder shaped air filter, or at least I think its an air filter
It sits right next to the oil breather on top of the engine and has a rather long spring that holds it in place.
Any help would be great and very much appreciated.
