Having trouble tightening the slotted nut on my electric mirrors, one has worked loose prob as a result of folding them in all the time when parked up, as i have to park on the street, and dont want them 'removing' by a passing truck!
cant seem to get the nut to start on the threads tho, do you have to push upwards as well as turning the nut, against a spring? just guessing here,
any tips very welcome! thanks.

mine did the same as you are describing and it turned out the internals had actually broken and the whole thing was just turning and not tightening....

The special nut which holds the mirror on has to be pressed hard before it will start on the thread. This is because of the strong spring underneath it. You many have to make a special spanner to be able to apply the pressure and turn the nut at the same time.

spot on, trundltruck!
that spring is well stiff to compress! have taken the mirror off now as the wiring was bodged and taped up and have made a tubular/notched spanner which did the trick, still a sod of a job though, as the wires do their best to stop you from getting at the nut, a bit of wiring to repair and it can go back on
