Spares List?

hi all

I thought I had seen a list of advisable spares to carry on this forum previously - but can't find it now - can anyone advise me on this? We have a 1983 1.6 Diesel camper, and are contemplating a 4 week or so trip to Europe in the summer.

Thanks for any help!

I have one of these, and would advise carrying a spare form of transport................... Only joking..........................
Could not resist.
usual euro bits ie.triangle,bulbs,ect.. and euro breakdown cover would be a smart move.............Plus I think their camping gas set-up, is a little different so if going for four weeks, would be worth looking into. I think rules differ from country to country, but heard that by law all campers must have a waste water tank so not to polute the country side. Cant belive this is true but I'm sure I heard it somewhere. A more experienced euro camper I'm sure, will fill you in on the finer details. lhd..................

A list of which 8090 members live abroad, where they are and their phone numbers would probably be useful.

thanks to all for the responses.

But apart from the legal stuff, what about the practical - eg would fanbelts be a good idea, what spares are hard to find abroad?

thanks!

Fanbelt definitely, with a diesel there's maybe less parts to think about. Fuel filter and oil-filter and plenty of lubes, some spare transmission lube maybe. But all the bits in the world are no good with the tools to fit them, unless you find a garage that'll fit them.

There's some very comprehensive lists in the Files section of Vanagon.com and Syncro, org, as they make very long journeys over there, down to Mexico and beyond.

Main thing I think is a good foreign recovery insurance, AA or CIS we tend to have.

And of course, your van is in A1 tip top condition before it leaves

Noomo and others should have good lists by now...

A coil of wire is always useful, and a hammer for hitting the starter if it plays up. Mole wrench, tools to tighten belts
But at 20+ years old , you are starting to need faith to venture forth unless you are adept at running repairs and sourcing bits. They are fairly easy to get in Germany, as you'd expect. Luckily I have my own translator with me at all times, my wife

Spares for Europe

I always take a spare accelerator cable, Fuel pump (petrol engine) and have just bought a spare windscreen wiper motor. If the wipers won't work it might mess up your holiday and make driving awkward.

Alot of the other things, hoses, tubes, wiring, etc could be codged up

If the engine blows up its the end of the holiday anyway and you will haved to get towed back. Heaven forbid! So also get someEuropean breakdown cover.

Have a good time
