The foam will be in there to stop "pooh" getting in whilst in transit or its found its way in by accident, never seen it before.

that is the same as mine ( well to all intense and purposes, mine is a 4123) the foam shouldnt be in the pipe, the twirly thing should be in the zorst, its to increase "draw"

Yes, the dangly bit as mocki also says, creates a vortex and so the heat swirls round and upward in a more even manner, hot gasses that are spiralled tend to rise more strongly and uniformly and are less suseptible to downdrafts,

Just seen your query about 'sponge' in gas inlet pipe.
It should be there. It is a filter. I removed mine when fitting my new fridge and then discovered from Dometic what it was. Should have found out before removing it. Had to buy another one.

Dont see any need for a filter in the gas line, if you have impurities of that scale then I would be more worried about their source, I dont dispute dometic stating its a filter but I would not consider it a requirement.

Must admit I could not see the point of a filter either. My old fridge ran for 15yrs+ without one and that was fine. But it was a new fridge, it came with a filter, for whatever reason, and in the unlikely event that I needed to make a claim under the terms of the guarantee I thought I had better leave it in, or rather replace the one I had taken out. It probably would work just as well without it but ??????
