My present setup consists of a Symphony radio/cd player (Ex Audi A4) with a BOSE amp and speaker - all eBay bargains!
My understanding is that when the radio is switched on this 'switches' the amp on via pin 6 of the 20 pin connector on the radio.

I have just acquired a 'carputer' (mini ITX form MB) which has RCA outputs plus the usual line in, line out and mic.
The power supply, M2-ATX, has the facility to switch an external amp when powered up.

So my questions are firstly, can I connect the RCA outputs directly to the BOSE amp ie splicing into the connections from the radio (pins 1-5 of the 20 pin connector) and secondly, similar to the first, can I use the switching facility on the power supply to turn on the amp (pin 6).

Any comments/suggestions gratefully received.

I know nothing about Bose's amp or Audi's head units, but as long as the input to the amp is a pair of standard car-audio RCA's, then yes you can. You'll need to use the line-out connection from the mini-ITX board, not the headphone output, but yes, the line output is the same level as a standard car stereo RCA output.

Again, I'm at the mercy of Bose's amp specs here. The remote turn on for a standard car-audio amp is simply a +12v signal. As long as the Bose amp uses the same signal, then yes you can.
