I'm looking to buy my first VW camper on a fairly limited budget, and wondered what anyone thought of this one currently for sale on Ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-Camper-T25-1-9 ... 286.c0.m14

I was interested to note the comments on the gearbox!
Thanks!

Forget it ! A jumping gear is a BAD sign and will probably lead to a costly rebuild or unknown second hand box before very long.

make a good kennel

rusty under the windows
wrong colour paint used to hide the rusty seams

Well, that's sorted that one out!!! Thanks!
As a newbie to VWs, can you suggest the best way to find a cheap starter van without being ripped off, given that neither my husband or myself are into vehicle mechanics and maintenance?

nice cheap camper here

or to this type of standard.

look for a Devon, LeisureDrive, Autohomes, Autosleeper, Reimo, holdsworth

as they are converted by factories to be well equipped campers.
as for maintenance... you'll either have to learn how to do the simpler stuff.. or face specialised garages, and their bills
these old things are over twenty years old... and things go wrong.

but when it's right.... they are the finest campervan ever made ever.

Phew! I thought you were going to slag em off for a moment.

I'm interested to see how much this one makes, so I'll know how much to ask for mine...not a diesel 'tho.

Well I was hoping for something under 2K, just to test out the water, or maybe a little more - I suppose you are always faced with the problem that a cheapo van may be a money magnet or a deathtrap!

Very true, so get as much info regarding history as you can get.

Probably be better to have it inspected by 'pros' if you don't have the experience.

With respect you'll be lucky to find much ~£2K that's not a money magnet ... in fact come to think about it they're ALL money magnets

You may strike lucky ... you may not, that's the gamble.
