check for slop where the change rod slides over the guide pin right at the gearbox end as i had loads of trouble getting mine out of third gear and even more trouble getting it into 2nd and 1st.
a new bush to take the slop out cured all the ills mine had and i made it myself

if your gear box is the same as mine there is a brk't with three holes, one for the linkage and 2 to connect to the gearbox, I sheared one of the bolts, which allowed the brk't and linkage to rotate around which eventually lead to me not being able to get it out of 1st (well not without the help of a 1/2 lump hammer)
check this brk't as the guy who helped me told me that a similar thing happens when people use the 4 speed gearbox brk't on a 5 speed

mine got stuck in gear when one of the plastic balls on the lever that comes out of the gearbox had came loose and moved down the shaft.

my brothers van has problems getting out of 3rd when driving. Its like its sticking, and you have to waggle it a bit to get it out. I've had the clutch bled just in case it was clutch drag, but its not that. I'm told it is 'balking' thinks thats the term. Apparantly its because the gearbox is worn, and there isn't really much you can do with it. Not sure if thats the same as yours or not. I have no problem putting it in gear, just getting itout of third....

If this gets worse when the van's warm then I'm afraid it sounds like the sychro hub is ion it's way out ... as happened eventually to us in Belgium last year

if you have a copy of Volksworld have a look for Cogbox's phone number.
When mine was stuck in gear, the guy who answered the phone was really helpful and talked me through exactly what to look at and told me to ring him back after i'd looked at the gearbox to report back my findings. he didn't just try to sell me a replacement box like some traders would.. definately worth a try
