Delayed start

Hello people!!!!!

Sometimes (increasingly recently possibly) when I turn the key to start the van nothing happens for half a second or so before it starts.

It always starts, but the delay worries me momentarily.

Is this something I need worry about?

Usually a poor connection to the starter motor/solenoid or the solenoid itself. Poor connections on the starter battery terminals. I would check these first. If it is geting more problematic then it will eventually get to a point where it fails altogether but making it a lot easier to find the culprit. If there is a common problem someone here will know.

for me it was the old sticky solenoid syndrome

I removed it and greased the bore... ok now

Ta peeps. I'll check the batt terms first, then have a go at the starter motor/solenoid.

Don't forget ignition switch problems are common on T25's and other earlier VW models (they all use the same switch) costs £5.88 from GSF and will cause this symptom amongst others.

Thanks for posting this....my camper is just starting with this trick. Think it got to Sittingbourne last night and decided it wasn't going any further! Went back to it this morning armed with spanners to remove starter, and it started as normal :?:

Drove it home, parked up outside house to unload....unloaded. And....no start. Applied spanner to postive terminal (not sure if it did anything) but it started. Have remade the negative terminal (was on the clip on thing - now has a proper connection), and it seems to be starting ok again.

May well ask hubby to remove and "grease the core" - could somebody please expand on this for me?

Thanks
Em
