winter camping

I intend to get max camping from van. Bought her last April-ish went camping and shivered all night. van has no heating other than normal front of van engine running heating. Can run convector heater if connected to 240 on site.

BUT I'm a wild camper at heart. Any advice on keeping van at least above freezing. Do the thermal window mats work? Or is it just a case of Don't camp alone, take someone to cuddle into ?

A full set of thermo mats help but I still rely on heating to be warm and comfortable.

Thermo mats definitely, but if you're going to be winter camping on a regular basis get a propex or an eber fitted, you won't regret it. Well worth the investment imho.

Have to agree with above. Have camped with and without heaters and don't want to be without again. So much nicer with heat.

I thought Autosleepers came with propex fitted as standard?

Tish...

Yes mate, get a propex or eberspacher as Tony said - you can fit them yourselves (lots of guides on here) or pay big bucks for someone to do it for you (a new one). I think propex is lot cheaper when new (around £650).

They turn your van into a proper home - expensive, but well worth the money!

Contact Gearge 'Spannerack' on here ... he sells ex BT diesel Eberspachers for a very reasonable amount. My tips for all year wild camping would be Eberspacher (or Propex) heating ... underfloor leisure gas tank, biggest toilet you can fit in the van, underfloor water tank, silverscreen thermo window mats.

Have fun, Ian.
