changing the oil, simple I know but not done it before!

Apologees for my rubbishness, but where is the oil sump on a diesel T25? Need to change the oil now...

Also, how much does a T25 need? I know I can check with the dipstick, but just to get an idea..

Go to a motor factors and get the sump plug seal and the correct oil for the engine type (probably 15w40 mineral). I would advise changing the oil filter as well.

Next get a large container that will fit under the engine and will hold more than 5ltr of oil!!

If you get down and look under the engine on the lowest point you will find a small nut (plug). This is where you drain the oil.

Get a plastic sheet under the bus if on your driveway in case you spill! (Keeps the wife off ya back) :wink:

Start the engine and run for 10mins until the engine is warm then shut it down!!, place the container under the sump, remove the plug using a ring spanner or a socket and allow all the oil to drain.

(If you are changing the oil it is worth changing the oil filter at the same time!!!!) If fitting a new oil filter now is the time. Remove the filter using grips or a fliter remover (or if your a bit ruff drive a screw driver through it then turn). Fill the new filter with some oil then rub a bit on the seal, check the seal seating is clean then screw it back on hand tight!!

Now you can replace the sump plug with its new seal and fill the engine with the fresh oil (check with motor factors how much oil it req's, usually about 5ltrs). Let the oil settle then check the level on the dip stick. top up if req'd.

Run the engine. Oil change complete :ok

if its a td.you wont need a plug seal.as its a bolt you just loosen..this is it..

on the new filter, wipe the rubber seal with a little oil put a small amount into the filter before you fit it and only do it up by hand, tight, but by hand. and if your are working on a slope face it up the slope so all the the oil drains
It should be a 13mm bolt with a copper washer just make sure the washer is clean

it should take 4.5 litres so if you buy 5 litres you'll have some for topping up between services :)

It's a Diesel 1.6 TD, so I guess it has the bolt for a sump.

when i bought a new 1.6td engine from vw a couple of years back.for my old camper.i was told to only use semi synthetic diesel oil in it...

Oil must be for 'TURBO' Diesel, this is more highly specified due to the heat it gets to going through the turbo, and the fact its used to cool the pistons from underneath...

4.5 litres from fully drained including filter, as everyone says, ensure you smear fresh oil on the new filter#s flat sealing rubber face before screwing it on. Only half fill it with oil as its at such an angle..

GSF do fully synth TD diesel oil for about £18/5 litres. Its called FUCHS Titan (for diesels)
