VDO gauges - are they worth the price?

I want to install a tacho and oil temp gauge on my AAZ and I've been looking around at a few different gauges.

Typically, the cheapest I've seen 52mm gauges for is about £25-30. Meanwhile, the VDO oil temp is about £35, and the tacho about £85.

Obviously, VDO were OEM to VW - so are they worth paying the extra for?

Oh you can set the the light to flash when you reach a set rev level :D

Box of tricks from Dakota Digital to change the signal from the altenator £30ish and it still worked out cheaper and didnt have to cut holes or look for a nice pod set up

ps it doesn't safe guard your gearbox though

Like Si says, VDO. Check scrappy for some out of Golf or similar. Some are 3 gauge sets of oil pressure, water temp and voltmeter. Get pressure sender and temp sender off donor car too. Can use same temp sender for oil or water.. it doesn't know the difference.

As lloyd mentions above there are plenty of used three guage sets about. Also look out for these in Audi 80/90/Coupe down the scrappy!
