Edle has got her MOT at the beginning of September so it is time to start sorting the problems.

When Sarah bought her only the passenger side washer worked. Recently even that one has stopped working. We tried to fill washer but it appears full and if we try to add water it pours straight through to the ground.

There is no sound when the washer lever is depressed.

Sarah can not see any blown fuses but does not know which one she should be checking.

Any ideas on what could be wrong and how to fix it?

Check (with ignition on and stalk switch in operation) that you have battery voltage on the Green /red wire and an earth on the brown wire at the pump.
If no earth, take a look at the photo in this link for a possible cause of a bad earth.

It could also be the water tank has got fur in the bottom and jammed the pump up

wipers work, so the fuse is probably ok (fuse 10 I believe)
Don't get any sound indicating pump working.

If you had one side working and now thats given up the ghost could it be blocked nozzles? I always carry a couple of long pins pushed into the edge of the sunvisor to clear the nozzle and adjust the angle of the jets...just a thought...

Is no sound a good thing or a bad thing? I would have thought that the motor should buzz if it has any life.

No sound is bad, you should be able to hear the pump running when parked, if it doesn't thats where you need to start. Likely causes are dirty conection on the pump itself or the stork switch. Mine had a dodgy switch that rarely worked but if you remove the steering column caseing you can see the switch contacts near the ignition barrel - the arm touches a long sticky out bit of metal - clean with emery paper.

Right. We checked the pump. Pump just makes a "clicking" sound and gets hot when the arm in the cab is pulled.

Have removed pump from washer box (can't think of its proper name right now).

So I guess the pump needs replacement. There are no part numbers on this pump. The label appears to have come orf at some point. I assume though, that there aren't many so I can't get this worng.

Shall let you know how I get on. Oh, and there is a parts place you lot on here use quite a bit. 3 alpha letters - but I can't remember it... any suggestions?

Cheers - thanks. Thats the one! Off to Canterbury on Tuesday morning!

We picked up the new pump from GSF this morning.

However it is nearly 1cm shorter, black instead of transparent cream and, most importantly the electrical connectors are different. Rather than two small spades in line with each other the new pump has 2 larger spades, one horizontal and one vertical. When we queried this the guy at GSF advised us that the design of the connectors had changed and we should cut the old connector off the van and solder the wires to the pump.

The new pump has part number 93754.

Can anyone confirm that the connectors for the pump has changed before I start butchering the wiring? I have bought some spade connectors from Maplin I don't have to solder the pump straight to the van wiring.

Also does anyone know what type of wiring is used for the pump as I would like to make a connecting wire that will plug into the existing van socket rather than cut the socket off?

Now to get the washer jets shooting in the right direction . And when they don't shoot Sezi just gives the front of the van a whack
