So now I've got another problem. I've sussed out which is plug number one & set up the timing which is spot on. My 1.9DG watercooled Year1985 is running like a bag of sh@@te. It has no power ,and back firing. It is ticking over ok,which is about all it is doing. Any one got any ideas, short of putting a match to it.

Sussed it. If anyone thinks I'm a bit of a thicky, you are probably right . I would consider myself quite bright. Sometimes things just don't go in. I've looked at an old thread & found a useful diagram posted by Kevtherev. Anyway I had number 3 & 4 lead the wrong way round. Scoobie feels like a different bus now, loads of acceleration. I've even put the matches away. Thanks everyone for any help given & I hope one day I can give someone, whose head is momentarily on the wrong way round, some help.

We had a non-starting coventry climax engined boat at our Cardiff rally and when I enquired as to the recent history the owner stated that it should be OK as he had replaced most of the ignition system all in one go. Dure enough he had the plug leads mixed up. Moral: don't do more than one bit at a time unless you absolutely know what you are doing and then maybe not!
Cheers
