Hello.. total noob here..

we have had our t25 for about 3 weeks now and im already getting ideas of what i would like to do to her...

one thing is that the steering wheel is huge, thin and is probably the worst looking thing on the bus..

we dont have power steering so i know i need to keep it a big wheel but surely i can go slightly smaller and preferrably something a little firmer to hold or more attractive ??

anybody here replaced their old t25 steering wheel with something a little nicer ? does it become impossible to turn if its a bit smaller ?

any suggestions on where and what i can get ?

any help would be great.

it sounds like you have the thin panel van steering wheel (which I LOVE!) rather than the thicker and more car-ish looking carvelle wheel, which is alot thicker, and squidgy too!

Look out for the velle one....sounds like it is nearer what you need.

Hubby has a golf one on his I think....biggest disadvantage is steering when trying to park, and also the wheel blocks all the guages etc on the dash more than the standard wheel. You also need adapters for other steering wheels - I don't know which alternatives bolt straight on.

Sirocco one go easily - I have one on mine - they are cheap at the breakers.

They are smaller, but I have no trouble parking etc.

You have to swap the horn ring over and scrape a bit of plastic away from around the horn ring.

There are 2 types of Rocco ones, the earlier type being better suited re the viewing the gauges thing.

Even then, the top of the clocks are obscured a bit, esp if you are a bit on the tall side but I am 6 foot and I got used to it very quickly.

my wheel is off an american pas bus.its smaller and thicker.than the one you have.and you can still see the clocks (a problem when fitting smaller wheels).and its a straight swap.i got it from this guy..http://www.vwbusparts.freeserve.co.uk/

I fitted a MK1 GTI Golf wheel (small spline)
This needs the indicator stalk raising but a pretty easy 30 minute job in total.
Might be a bit small for non p/s

i have a golf wheel on mine, and never had any problem reading the clocks, or steering it, but then im a fat bloke, and im not short either.......

if the steering feels a bit too hard, pump the front wheels up a bit.......

Didn`t VW put a Porsche steering wheel on the Last Limited Edition T25`s ? I wouldn`t mind putting one on my van but I`m not sure which model Porsche the steering wheels come from or if you need to modify them ? Theres also the question as to whether the horn will work or not.

I replaced my panel van type steering wheel (if thats right), mainly because it was unsually sticky, nothing would get whatever was on it off.
I replaced it with a carvelle wheel took about 5min and £25 including postage of ebay.

funnily enough....ours feels "tacky" as well..... dunno what it is. We tht it might have been the previous owner used something on it to clean it and it would wear off in time...

Our van had a 12 inch leather momo wheel on it when we got it and its got 205 tyres, it was abit on the heavy side for steering and I couldn't see the clocks at all.

Got the original big skinny wheel now, huge improvement.

Its a bus so you've got to have a big wheel.

Ours is the same. Very tacky and looks as if there is a sticky coating on it thats starting to come off.

Seems to be a common thing then.

Get a PAS T3 wheel on it, its a nice soft wheel thats slightly smaller than the original at 420mm instead of 450mm - still big enough to turn but the size difference is surprisingly significant when it comes to knee room. The standard caravelle (without PAS) wheel looks identical but is also a full size 450mm jobby so be careful what you buy. The original hard plastic one could be useful as a dog frisby? Thats about all I think they are useful for - if it got chewed it wouldn't make it feal any nastyer!

Car wheels like golf and whatever tend to be about 380mm or less I think.
