Fitting a wind-out awning to a westy high top

I've taken the Fiamma awning off my old pop-top california and want to fit it to a high-top atlantic.

The awning was previously mounted using gutter brackets. The Atlantic's gutters are filled with sealant. Although i've removed a section of sealant to allow me to drop the bracket into the gutter, the flange of the fibre-glass roof doesn't allow enough depth for the bracket to sit properly in the gutter.

I've considere fitting the Fiamma to the wall of the high-top with some reinforcing plates behind, but this would appear to entail removing a lot of the interior trim to expose the inside of the fibre glass roof.

Has anyone successfully fitted a fiamma to a high-top westie? If so, how did you do it??

Thanks loads

Fiona

I had the same issue when I fitted a Fiamma to my Autosleeper hightop. I did'nt want to use the gutter mount as it would have stopped me using an awning and with the van lowered I wanted it mounted higher up. I drilled the side and mounted it with the Fiamma supplied basic kit with sealant in each bolt hole. It has been on for about a year now and been to Spain and back with no problems. If you are going to Vanfest let me know and you can have a look at how mine is fitted if you want?

Hi

we've managed to fit using the gutter brackets, but was a bit of a job to do. the gutter sealant was cut out around the site of the brackets and the metal flange around the skirt of the fibre glass roo flattented.

Brackets then fitted and then the gutter re-filled with gutter sealant, and painted.

all seems to be okay.

however, with lack of gutter to run the rain off (and that's the same with or without the fiamma fitted) rain water has the annoying habit of dripping, ney, pouring, into the van when the sliding door is open.

we're now planning to make a false gutter using some plastic trunking, painted calypso same as van, to try to stop this annoying habit.

anyone else have this problem?

Thanks, Fiona
