After rather a lengthy search I've now managed to find a speedo (805) with working odometer so I can hold on to my precious limited mileage discount and maybe finally find out what I'm getting to the gallon.

Now all I've got to do is swap out the old one but I'm not quite sure how to do this. Any advice gratefully received

You will need to remove the complete instrument POD, held in by 4 screws. First, the cover is removed by a sharp pull upwards from the back.
Then remove the plastic liner.
Remove the self tappers on the left holding to dashboard and slacken the two on the right.
slide the pod slightly left and then forward and unclip all the wiring sockets, switches, etc. Squeeze the tabs on the spedo cable and withdraw it.

Undo the 14 pin Multi connector and remove the pod!

The speedo IIRC is secured by four screws but take care with the membrane circuit behind it.

So with some trepidation I swapped out my old speedo with the replacement I sourced at the weekend. A little fiddly but everything seemed to click back in to place just fine. Was very pleased to see a working odometer and trip but then I noticed the speedo itself wasn't working. It either does nothing and just hovers above the end pin or jumps up to 30 and sits there or thereabouts or spins all the way round to 100+ and stays there.

So I swapped my original speedo back in and that works just fine, so I haven't damaged anything in the swap (funny only took me half the time second go around).

Does this sound like a fixable problem or do I need to return the speedo and get another replacement?

Under pressure now as the insurance company are about to whack my premium up as I can't give them an accurate mileage!

What I should have said is that the speedo on the old one still works - but the odometer & trip don't - which was the reason for seeking a replacement in the first place

At least I'm now getting handy at stripping them out and putting them back in!

Turns out the replacement speedo I bought was knackered. Fortunately the dealer I bought it from knew a chap who could fix it. However it ended up cheaper getting my original fixed and a refund from the dealer - result!

Everything's now in place and working - at last I can see what mileage I'm getting and get to keep my limited mileage discount.
