thanks fellas, that subaru engine looks soooo neat!! and i'm pretty sure it goes as well as it looks too.
i'm interested in an 8v gti, purely for the fact that they are easily obtainable and according to you lot not too difficult to install, but as i'm replacing an Aircooled i will have to install a water system, so i haven't ruled anything out really....
as with most things in life money plays a big part, so providing the extra parts needed for the gti swap aren't going to cripple me, i see it as the best option financially too
don't you?
Ways to win her over.....

Sorry to interupt your thread with my words of advice but i cant help sharing............
Trust me, pictures of engines are a man thing! Exciting though they may seem to the male hormones, perhaps show her pictures of where ur gonna take her when its finished, explaining that there's no way the vans gonna pull up the twisty roads of Italy or get over the mountains to Spain with the current engine.....
Its the thought of a month in Europe, with an engine that doesnt sound like its suffering a painful death, that's keeping me grinding, filling and reading manuals at weekend (not to mention wiring looms and 4-2-2 exhaust manifold probs!) Being taken to Vanfest helped win me over too.
R u sure that talkin engines to her is the way to go??? It's taken me years as the daughter of a mechanic, with a car-mad boyfriend to even begin to understand the inner workings of the van (spent a thrilling sat night learning about diffs)..... and us women hate it when u men know more about something that we do....
Alternatively, let her loose on the interior (if u dare).....
Love
VWbabe.... must get back to my grinder!

Ned i considered getting a 1.6n aspired or td mot failed or scraped.Refit parts ie radiator the pipes all the bits .Replace engine with a VW 1.9 diesel you need the bell housing sump from the 1.6 and oil pump to refit on the 1.9 .I saw a running 1.6 diesel in a t25 on fleab.ay that went for £150.This engine swap for 1.6 to 1.9 seems a easy conversion our disavantage is we need all the other bits .

If you're thinking of a 1.8 GTi engine, go for the Digifant engine, NOT the K-jet. You'll save yourself atleast £150 and a lot of time trying to mount the Metering head somewhere. Also you'll find that the Digifant engines have generally less milage than the K-jets due to the fact that they were used in later cars.
If you need any info on fitting one, email me.
