A couple of weeks ago I paint the side of my van. I'm quite chuffed with how well it came out, got a good colour match but it looks a bit flat to the rest of the paint work. Here's the question. How do you go about polishing it? I've tried doing it with a cloth and some T-cut which isn't that bad but it's a bit patchy. I've seen it done with an electric polisher but my fear is I'll rub right through the paint. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Depends on what paint was used and also if the original paint had a lacquer finish

If it's celllulose let it harden for a day in warm weather then cut it with 1000 grit wet and dry water and soap (wet the paper rub soap on the paper) circular movements then a cutting compound then polish. Make sure that all cut surfaces are covered with polish when you have finished for the day as the paint will be porous and blemish

It depends on how much paint you have put on and be careful of edges as they will tend more paint removed in the above process

thanks for the reply Kimbobill, it wasn't cellulose paint it was halfords own brand with about 4 base coats of white underneath. I'll try the 1000 grit today.

Recommend any particular Cutting paste or are they all the same?
