I've been looking for a leisure battery for quite a while that will fit under the seat and still allow my seat to swivel.

I and others have asked if anyone knows of one that will fit. Some members have said they have one but didn't divulge the make, model etc

Obviously I have been, like others, using an old starter battery but I would eventually like to get a proper leisure battery that's fit for purpose.

hence I am asking for people who have lproper eisure batteries that fit to take a few minutes and look under their seat then come on here and post the make and model. It doesn't matter if you can't remember where you got it from as the make and model is a good start for an internet seach and a reference when dealing with battery outlets

There are models out there that fit.

I've been doing some research with a contact who works in the inductry, but he doesn't do single item sales to the public.

Varta Semi-Traction batteries are designed for deep cycle use and can be discharged for along time, but you pay for the performance. They are 175 - 185mm high and the other dimensions depend upon the ah. The biggest you can fit iirc is 70ah, but you are looking at the wrong side of 100 pounds.

You can buy a Delphi Freedom marine Leisure Battery their 70ah model almost fits the dimensions at 277x175x190, byt I don't have a UK price for one.

Not much help I'm afraid I'm waiting till pay day and will be doing some more reseach.

Save your Brain Cells. There may be one or two small batteries out there but they are hard to find. AND the amperage may not be quite what you want.

I gave up and put my leisure battery in the cupboard behind the drivers seat and re-routed my Zig Unit there too. I made a box to cover it from 4mm ply and check and clean the terminals every trip. The original box behind the seat now holds the jack, wheelbrace, triangle, torch etc and loads of stuff that used to roll around the van.

Just a thought.

It's an idea Spleobod but unfortunately for us we have less cupboard space due to corner seating and our Gas tank in the wardrobe, so I'm not letting Matt have my cupboard for the battery so he's got to find one to fit

If anyone get's one let us know, I think he's planning on ordering on.

I did find some varts's and delphi's that fit perfectly. but they are not cheap (£60-£90)

After trying to charge his battery for ages and then finding its knackered his main battery too my Dad is off to find a new one, will let you know what he gets.
I'm sure a duff leisure battery shouldnt flatten a main battery should it?

I don't thinks so Cate but over in non VW camper land there was some discusion on the fact that if you drain your lesure battery right down then start your vehicle (so activating the relay and conecting the batteries together into one big one) the flat battery will drag the good battery down before either have a chance to charge up.

There are gizmos you can get to avoid this, I think they involve diodes or some such magic but I think last time the subject came up someone with far more knowledge than me dismissed the whole idea as barking.

If both batteries are dead though perhaps there is some common cause and before fitting two new batteries and having them go the same way he might be better finding it?

Yes Euan, he's had a leccy bloke look at it all, unfortunately the guy who owned the van before the last guy thought he ws some sort of electrical wizard and has managed to add bit of household wiring all over the place, god knows where half of it goes to or comes from, dad won't let me pull the van apart to find out! The main battery seems to be charging fine and with the duff leisure battery out of the loop it should be ok now, but like you, i do wonder what was draining the leisure one in the first place.

This is mine in my Autosleeper it takes up all the space and just about fits under the seat with a cover over it
