50p fix to save your trip...

From todays experience - I suggest that if you have never replaced the spring clips that retain your temperature sender(s) in your thermostat housing - then next time you are round the back of the engine - see if:
1. they still exist
2. They are in reasonable (springy not crusty) condition.

If either of the above then drop by the VW dealer and get some replacements before you have a day like ours.

Weirdly I was just boring my wife with a comment about only dripping a very small amount of coolant over the last 1000 miles when on came the coolant light (flashing) then the oil light. I pulled over as soon as possible and turned off the engine - the front sensor was hanging by the wires and coolant was everywhere - the steam soon subsided thankfully.

Fortunately only 10 miles from home - so on with the soup - and kettle and called out Footman James recovery - very efficient service - took a look at the problem (I had pretty much identified what had happened) and lifted and recovered back home.

Does anyone have any idea how much coolant might remain in the system - I have just replaced full system with genuine VW coolant too :(

So - preventative action is always recommended - especially when it is this easy and cheap - even I could do it.
Now to master the old system bleeding trick........
