the van this morning felt like it had kangaroo juice in it... drove the 10 mile to work and everytime i took my foot off the gas to break or just cruise it felt like it was jerking (cutting fuel rather than adding fuel). then when i dip the clutch the revs stay at about 1300. Got in the engine bay to turn the idle screw to sort out the revs and it won't go any slower , it's as far as i can turn it clockwise.

has anyone got any ideas on what's gone wrong?

i was thinking maybe throttle body knackered, as if it was a fuel pump problem why would it be revving high? but i'm no expert so any help would be appreachiated.

a few day ago before this happeded the van cut out a few times(when dipping the cluth at lights) but started straight back up, again maybe a fuel or electrical problem. Is this related?

Most likely gunge in the linkage between the butterfly and the carb. Give it a good blast with WD40 and see if that helps before taking thing apart!

If your engine is a 2.1 DJ or MV, then suspect the engine temp sender for the ecu, this is on the back of the thermostat housing, and has a two wire plug going to it. If it is faulty it tells the ecu that the engine is cold, and needs a rich mixture, also you will not be able to turn the revs down with the screw on the throttle body, as the ecu thinks you need higher revs to keep the engine running, which is fine when the engine is cold, but rises up and up as the engine warms.

it is the 2.1 injection engine, so i will check out the plug you mentioned. So touch wood it'll get me where i need to go as at least it's revving too high and not too low.

The screw was already totally clockwise as far as it would go and had no movement in it to slow things down and for months it's been fine. so fingers crossed it'll be as simple as clean up the contacts and bob's your uncle.

check and replace the inline fuel filter... They don't tend to last long, so worth replacing before trying the more expensive options...

this w'end i:
replaced the dizzy cap and rotor arm, that got rid of the kangaroo juice when setting off (van still idling at 1500)

stripped the throttle body and cleaned everything up with degreaser & re-assembled(brought revs down to 1100, still no kangaroo juice)

looked at all the breather pipes and it turned out a previous owner had used the piping you use in a fish tank(see through green stuff ) from the fuel regulator valve(where the pipes to the injectors comes from), back into a housing beneath the valve. rI replced this with the correct diameter/type of piping and this brought the revs back down to about 750/800 & the stutter when off the gas pedal has now disappeared.

i looked at the connector on the back of the thermostat housing and whilst trying to pull it off to inspect, managed to pull the temp sensor out and drop half my coolant, turns out there should be a clip holding this in and an O-ring around the sensor to seal it, if this happens to you, remember to look/feel up the pipe, as the O-ring sat up there and hadn't come out...
