I can't remember where but I read a discussion on the difficulty of providing safe ventilation while sleeping in campers. I have this problem and not wishing to leave a window open or provide another way for the crooks to break in or gas us in our bed I have dreamed up the following:
I have turned out (could be sawn off) the bottom of my floor mounted 2" diameter table socket and installed a small but powerful fan (ex computer or similar) at the bottom. When the cover plug (or table) is removed the fan can be switched on to blow air into the van which then exits at the roof vent. The advantage here is that the air comes from a shaded area under the van. At night his would be switched off but would still provide some fresh air. I guess holes could be made in the table leg to provide a cool draft when seated at the table. I would consider placing a larger vent somewhare else in the floor but don't have the space in my Leasiuredrive hightop.

I did say covert. But the stay would sufice in most pitches.

They only leave the door open about Two inches.

Thieves have been known to gas truckers while they sleep in their cabs and then knock off the load - saw it on the telly last night so it must be true!!

This gassing happens in France, they use easy start type stuff.
Mainly at truck stops or autoroute rest stops.

Like the idea, like Ringo might have to put the fan in reverse.

I fitted a solar vent last Saturday, what a difference. I know it dont work in the dark but at first light it kicks in. No condensation in the morning van was a lot cooler.

I got two from fleabay for £32.

I have a few photos of it on the van will pop them on if anyone is intrested.

This stuff has been known to happen - but i dont think its common. Least its never happened to me or anyone i know (or in this club either unless someone knows different).

I would think that if you plan to stay in autoroute stops quite regularly then its worth installing a "narcotics alarm" - and this air vent idea is perfect too.

Personally i try and avoid them (autoroute rest stops) but i have used them a few times. I like to find a nice camp site or park in a town....

thays why i love loovre windows........and ive never had anyone breaking the roof vent either, which a BFO fan in it which kicks in if the temp rises .

not sure the hole in the floor thing is all good, unless you can besure its watertight when moving.... or travelling through fords........


i mostly just leave the front windows down a inch each, the loovre window open and the roof vent open...if its hot,and im on a site , sliding door open, tailgate open and roof vent fan on full bore......... (only happened otwice in the last 15 years tho....... )
i have one of those tailgate things, and ive only ever used it once, its not big enough to get any good draught throough, needs to be about 6 iniches longer i recon, one day ill get round to sorting it


its all down to how nervous you are and how safe the spot is you have parked on i guess.......
