Hi :D

Think i've got some water in my petrol tank. Runs like crap.

I attached a jerry can for a little temporary tank and it ran alot better.
So I need the water out !

Any tried and tested methods for flushing out, I don't want to take the tank out if possible !

I don't think there's that much petrol left in her tho.

Thanks !

Mark :)

chances are you have a hole in the top of your tank(a common problem)which means tank out and replace it..

The tank's not that old it was replaced about 3-4 years ago before I owned it, its not rusted underneath or anything, looks in good shape.

I see a gromit on the diagram, perhaps that's missing or something.

I think powerhosing the crud from under the arches may have had a hand in i

Check your rubber filler pipe up inside the wheel arch, they are a common place for water to enter the petrol tank as most are split or rotten. Could be worth a check espicially as you said you jet washed under that area.

just pull off the pipe and let it drain....

the water will be first... then the petrol

oh and then change the filter...

be best to take return pipe off too, as it drains lower

i had similar prob, the water was getting in through the top of one of the expansion tanks in the wheel arches (the valve on top of the expansion tank had rotted away) so in wet weather the wheel was throwing water up and ended up getting into the petrol tank

and with mine it was perished breather hoses...

Just a thought but, you said it ran better with the jerry can hooked up? was this direct to the lift pump? had you by-passed the fuel filter, mine would run at between 30 and 45 till I changed the filter,
Might be worth a look

If there's water there's probably a breather pipe off from the reinstall last time and there will be rust in the tank, only way to get it right is tank out rinse drain, took me 12 rinses to get mine clean after someone else left off the breather when disturbing the tank to fit something else. But since then and with all new breather flexis it's been right, prior to that a filter lasted a week before blocking up.

He says he thinks he has water in the tank. just cos it runs crap dont mean the same which is why I asked if the jerry can was bypassing the filters,
I'd want to see/find water before going down the route of tank removal .
