Hi again all,

Does anyone know of a bike rack that would fit on the back of our van without having to take off the ladders? Not such a big deal to take the ladders off I guess, just don't want to leave big holes in the door.

Jo.

My ladder was removed as my bike rack would have stuck out too far one side..holes filed in with sealant to stop leakage but body work to be revamped in the near future ..been up on roof twice yesterday all without ladder so not really sure of the usage of them anyway

I needed one that cleared a spare wheel mounted on the ladder. I got a towbar fitting Maxxraxx bike carrier. You need a short extension piece and the bikes are then held high enough and clear. Not cheap, but a good bit of kit - it is easy to remove when not needed and can hold up to 4 bikes.

cheers,
Donald.

I have a maxraxx on my car for the kids bikes.
It was difficult finding a rack that would carry a variety of bikes..our son has a Schwinn stingray (awkward)
The Maxraxx is great...very easy to cary the bikes. Put them on the v shaped carriers and ratchet them down with the built in strap.
a really good bit of kit.

I have the Thule towball mounted one. You buy the 3 bike one and get a add on for an extra bike. Maxxraxx one looks good and would have bought that one if they hadn't insisted on having one of their fitters fitting the bracket. They don't have fitters in Scotland so didn't bother.

They just clip on to the ball with a lever and hand screw bolt thingy. Quick to fit and you can still open the boot with the bikes on the back.

They are expensive though.
