Subaru ECU problem

I have put this up in the alternative engine part just putting it in here aswell as a stab in the dark. Getting pretty desparate now.
After Doing a test to check the fan the engine won't start. If you do a test everything does as it should but it still wont fire. If anyone has any ideas it would be gratefully appreciated. Is there a safe mode on the ECU?
2.2 Legacy with three connector ECU OBD 1.

Strange you should mention that because my random ECU failure gave all the correct static test results while the fault was present but still wouldnt run the engine. I surmised that say, the sparks and injection pulses were present but missing the boat so to speak. Or maybe the pulses were failed at "Too short to run" Or something like that. If as it looks like you suspect your ECU you might be interested in a firm I just found:Blue Strek Europe Ltd in Nottingham. Phone number 01623 886470 Who test and repair ECU's and Air Flow Meters. Or supply them. I haven't dealt with them but they do an impressive catalogue with a very comprehensive list of models.
Good luck
Ken

If you have had them apart check the plugs near the throttle body. I think it is the coil and the crank position sensor have plugs which are the same fitment (3pin). If they are mixed it will do everthing else it should but actually start.

Strangely enough and with absolutelly no relevence to this post I had the same thing when I rebuilt my Modeo engine. Out of shear stupidity andquite out of character the TDC senso and a temp sender plug are identical and out of the same limb on the loom. I was hunched over the engine bay when the radiator fan burst into life and this was my clue!
Cheers
