Shell Island = hell on Earth!

Spent last Saturday night on Shell Island...never again...what an utter hell hole.

The place was packed with the worst of this country's scum, playing super-loud techno music all night long. Feral youths were vomiting, setting random fires, and banging on the side of the van at 3AM.

Shell Island should be renamed ASBO Island.

What the hell were the editors of "Cool camping Wales" thinking?

Fact of life in some places now & you cant complain either as thats also an ASBO.... :?

We usually stay home in the mass hols & go to places like Shell Island out of season..Fr night Thru Sunday when there is no Riff-raff about & have a fab time. AND nothing gets nicked ..which is a bonus.

shell has always been a "pooh", the only pluspoint is the location, unless its changed, the facilites are poor, the set out is crap and the price is high, but its location is great........ i hate the place!

maybe out of season its ok, but ill never go back

its "pooh", but it happens everywhere, not just a Shell Island.

Did you report any of this?

there is a forum at shellislandcampers.co.uk where you can discuss stuff like this.

My general view of Shell is that its great midweek, and off season. High Season weekends are a bit shat to be honest. As they are at a lot of sites

That's the point; ASBO Island isn't managed at all. It kinda reminded me of that awful Kurt Russell film "Escape from New York":no enforcement of the rules, no self-control by the rabid, feral scum on-site and basically just a complete cess-pit of a site.

Never again!

Just to show good holidays can be had on Shell Island. We've had 3 great family holidays on Shell ... the 'facilities' DO leave a great deal to be desired BUT if you avoid Bank Holidays and don't camp in 'The Dunes' it's been fine (OK it's a tad dear) but absolutely beautifull in good weather also to be avoided is the 'Acorn Ridge' drop-out camping area ... I hear that that's not still on the go though ?

The owners are just money grabbers and will cram as many as they can in during the season to make the most dosh.

My biggest complaint of Shell island was that after a 3 hour drive down to the campsite, the tide had come in and wiped out the only access road so we had to sit with thumbs up asses till it went out

Once in we had a crackin time and parked right near the dunes, although the kids on the beaches did seem to be participating in some kind of orgy. But thankfully they left us out of it :(

Sorry you had a ruff time.

Sorry ian i beg to differ with you about them being money grabbers, if that was the case why would they give a compleat refund or a credit noitce to campers that had lost tents and and had to cut short their hols because bad storm hit and opened the cafe so peeps could get a drink and get out of the weather, I've never in all my years of camping heard of this from other sites. Also the warden was up allnight helping people to save their tents. :D

No probs Wendy, the issue I have with the Lorrymans (? summat like that) is that they've made no attempt what-so-ever to improve the facilities which are abysmal at best. They stuff people in long after the Island's 'Full' and have zero control over the idiots the place tends to attract.

That said we've had some great holidays there and the kids still love the place (as I do) BUT now we don't use the facilities, only the cafe and shop and try to park on the strip over the top from the shops on the shell beach.
