Hello everyone. We've just bought a 1982 2.0l AC Westy Joker and I have some newbie questions.

I have searched for info on security devices etc and seen that most advice is given by pm, understanably. Could someone pm me some advice on immobilisers, locks, alarms etc as I don't want it to get nicked.

Also does anyone kow a good garage near Reading where I could get work done? I have searched for this too, but one of the many drawbacks to living in Reading is that any web search thinks you're looking for reading material! Hence I have 43 pages of discussions to look through! I've tried dubdoctors but the closest appears to be Jacksgarage in London, which wouldn't be the end of the world but closer would be nice.

Any other advice gratefully received.

These thigs are getting knicked all the time so just get the best alarm you can afford!!!! People wont tell you what they got as anyone can read this but easist thing is alarm immobilisor etc simplest one is remove your battery!!!
As for garage i live in nottignahm and cant help you sorry!

Welcome to the strange world of T25 ownership.
Security is difficult as these vans are very easy to get into.
Immobiliser or secret switch to isolate battery is fairly simple to do.
I have a 1981 2litre A/C Holdsworth camper and live near Guildford Surrey.

Very friendly but also honest and will tell you what is worth doing.
I have used him for 4 years and he has my van at present for welding works and engine rebuild!!

Yes I agree and the more devious and non-standard he better. I believe the crims go on courses to learn how to defeat proprietry alarms. Before I installed my current intruder alarm, isolatior and covert deadlocks I bought a couple of battery operated sensor lights and replaced the bulbs wih Burglar Alarm Pietzo's. There is also available a very loud shed alarm cmplete with remot fob. Put battery isolators in secret places and make access to tjhe batteries at least needy of some spanner work. You know you done it right if it keeps on catching you out!

kevtherev - I don't have anything specific that needs doing, it seems in pretty good nick (no pun intended!), I bought ot from Eastfalia and Steve seems to think it's good and reviews on here suggest he's trust worthy.

I just wanted to identify a good mechanic in anticipation of issues, before I was panicking about something.

I have the same problem, I have just purchased a T25 autosleeper, I am also wondering what the best alarm etc.. is too fit, I heard something about tyre defaltors ? are they any good ?? thanks in advance

Toad alarm is the best after market fit IMHO.

battery isolators
fuel cut off switches
Wheel clamp

etc

I'd be looking at anywhere you can put in discrete switches that can render the van undrivable or at least damned difficult to trace the problem like er...immobilising the low tension circuit possibly?
