Question: Do you need the engine number in order to get it registered in the UK? If so then you don't really need the engine number in spite of what the form says.

in the service manual

or on the engine block

its on the base of the oil breather tower, squint through the numberplate flap, and its behind the fan belt, on the bit the tower bolts to......
