Mine did this it turned out on mine it was the ht leads get some really good high current aftermarket ones (still cheaper than subaru) these vans use massive amounts of power on the ht leads !!!!
You'll know full well if its the fuel pump really it wont start at all!!!!

Ok...excuse my ignorance but what are HT leads?..the leads to the spark plugs?...why would it just effect the van when moving and not sitting still? this is a new problem btw.. vans been ok for 2 years... anything to do with all this rain do you think?!

once the leads are under load they breakdown trust me its most likely your leads mine did the exact same i tried everything my leads were about 4 years on the van and a couple on the car before it they just started to play up all of a sudden!!!

io would guess fuel starvation - there is enough flowing at idle to rev it, but when you put your foot down and the engine under load, it splutters and stuff.
have you checked your fuel filter? is there enough fuel in the tank?

What fuel tank do you have? 2.1 has baffles and stop swirling.

if all else fails could be an air leak from a loose pipe etc...

thats interesting - didn`t know you get a standard tank with baffles and anti swirl stuff. i have problems wherby if the fuel level gets to a low positon - say 1/8th full, when i go round corners or if the van jerks like when changing gear, i get fuel starvation. i`ll definitly get a 2.1 tank in the future if it has baffles!

That is what the guy who is doing my engine was saying yesterday. I needed a new tank so he got a 2.1 tank. it has baffles to stop swirling as fuel is pumped out and returned it tends to swirl in other tanks. It could also be your tank is $hagged and getting blocked, check the filter.

ok.. didnt get a chance to look at it last week. And now after it's sat another week it wont start at all. Turning over fine but no fuel going in.... do i really want to be changing all the leads? Which is the easiest thing to check first?
I have a 1.9 tank btw
cheers

turn the key do you hear the fuel pump buzz for a few seconds??? should only be a second or two then switch off this should only happen on the first turn of the key not on crank!
