Golf Digital Clock - which set of Clocks to buy ?

I just bought a set of Golf Mark 2 clocks on Ebay and the digital clock is the wrong type. I am trying to figure out which type of Golf Clocks to buy to salvage a working digital clock. There seem to four different types - the main differences seem to be whether there is an MFA display and whether there are one or two sockets on the bottom (Earler 83-89 type has two, later type after 1990 has one). Has anyone successfully salvaged a clock and could you tell me the correct model ? Presumably the Jetta clocks are the same too ?

This is similar to the one I bought, Later single socket, MK2 GTI, no MFA - the clock connections are completely different (no two pin socket) and there are no pins to change the time, the pins are attached to the curved clear front

This one is Early type, two socket Mk2 GTI 8V No MFA

Later Single socket with MFA

Early type Two socket with MFA

Here is a picture of part of a Mk2 Dash pod that sold on Ebay recently that has the correct clock but said it was MFA...

The MFA screen doesn`t work with the original LCD clock circuit board. you get all sorts of little half arrows and gobbledy-gook instead of solid numbers. I tried it (got sold an MFA display instead of a clock) The correct Golf clocks are the ones with an LCD clock in them, MK1 or MK2 I believe. Come up all the time on Ebay for around £20-£25

I tried replacing just the lcd module, unfortunately it didn't work. On the old one I can faintly see contact tracks in the glass edge of the lcd top and bottom whereas the new one only has tracks at the top and there are more of them. These correspond with contacts on the PCB. This is definitely a clock, you can see the hours and minute segments. The LCDs are very fragile and sensitive too ! So I have run out of money on this one, can't afford any more experiments !

here is the old broken one:
