Hello again,

Went on our first weekend away in our new van a few weeks ago, all went well except a few problems with the electrics which my electrican brother kindly sorted out for us, plus the curtains we ordered hadn't arrived so we spent 10 minutes taping tinfoil to the windows each night before we went to sleep!

Curtains have now arrived and where we have curtain rails we've got them up and they look great. There are no rails at the window on the sliding door, the window directly opposite that one (above sink and cooker), nor at the rear tailgate. The previous owners have clearly used Velcro to keep the curtains in place, but I'd ideally like to have rails all around.

I think it would be simple enough to add rails above the cooker and sink, and on the tailgate, but I think there is a reason there isn't one on the sliding door window i.e. it would get in the way of the door opening. Has anyone else got around this problem without resorting to Velcro?!

and opposite, velcro has fallen off leaving nice sticky brown patches!

We bought some curtains from Baimex, they have a metal rail at the top and bottom.

They look realy neat and were easy to install, did cost 144 euro though.

Have a look here (it's in German), one of the pic's shows the curtains and rails.

Titus, they look excellent, and are in fact the kind of thing I was imagining having before we actually bought this van.
Wish they would have turned the radio off before shooting that video!

Bogwoppit, that would be great to see a pic of your rails on that window, I take it the curtain doesn't intefere in any way with the closing/opening of the door then?

the rail for the sliding window runs on the rail that the slider ball rolls in...then the curtain draws back to the window. The door can be opened with the curtain closed, as the track fixes to the van, not the door.

If on your photo you look where the cab curtain opens to, imagine the rail continuing at the same level on the metal work above the door - thats how may camper works. It has supports to make the curve of the rail slightly less dramatic so that the cutains run easily.

ooh yes, that helps lots! Makes sense of course that it would go on that bit...! I wonder why whoever put the tracks in didn't put them all around. Hmm. Great, I'm off to order some more tracks then, and to get to work peeling the rest of that ugly velcro off!!

Jo - you will find out why when you try and fit them....they don't bend easily!!

And many of us have the thermomats instead of curtains.....unless like me you have both coz Ilike the look of curtains!

Oh I see I am too late Mine are more or less like that. The rail goes right round the 'lump' so it doesn't interfere in any way, and the curtains pull back right to the end at the rear of the window behind the door.

Great pics Gaz, thanks so much. The viking roof on mine comes down quite close to that bendy bit so I will have to remind myself of what happens when the roof is up (have only had it up twice so far) to make sure it will work, I'm sure it will be fine.

i have roller blinds, so much easier, and they dont flap about in the wind.....

Hi Mocki, where did you get the roller blinds from. Do they fit width/lengthwise or did you have to indulge in lots of cutting and shaping.

i have had them about 8 years now, they are getting abit tired tbh.....

they were bought as the silly sun blinds, you know with the material with many hundreds of tiny holes in them? we then took that material off and replaced it with black synthetic silk type blackout material....... so we adjusted the length during the process, and the blind width was bought the corret size from the "boyracer " shop in scarboro one time we were hanging around there........ cost about £40 to do including the blackouty material, they work well, but need replacing now really, but im not sure i will be able to find the sunblinds nowdays.........
i cant stand curtains, they flap and get in the way when travelling with the windows down, and are a right pain at night, and i dont like silver screens coz i cant see the point of wasting space when you are not using them..... the only curtain i have goes between the cab and kitchen to close the front off, and thats only because i could fit a blind there!

Mine's a Viking and I have no probs with the rails
