Loads of postings regarding rear seat belts, the worry of us parents who buy vans to take the kids away....

but they all get a bit confusing, especially when it comes to the wardrobe side of the van!

So, for all of us with a wardrobe in the back... who's put a three pointer on that side.. and tell us how you've done it... photos would be great.

(Can we avoid this thread becoming "It can't be done"... can we just know, if you've done it... HOW have you done it?)

We solved the problem by just fitting a lap belt. After all, they aren't going to hit their head on the front seats are they!!

Andy, the threads about fitting a 3 point belt... not lap belts, which aren't safe in any accident.

fit the same as the other side removing or forming slots in the bits that get in the way. We had the wardrobe door removed on our Devon and just put in a curtain.

Yet to do our Holdsworth, may fit a byfolding door or convert the current one.

I have now converted two T3's with 3 point belts in the back.

The first one was a Reimo conversion, with standard furniture. In this I made up a simple and strong metal box section steel frame, which ended in a plate in the apropriate place for the wardrobe. This frame just ran along the inside of the furniture and terminated on a further plate on the bulkhead fire wall where I bolted it through in about four places. This worked a treat, and I just bolted on a standard rear 3 point seat belt from securon. I do not have any digital photos for this as it was back in 2001.

The second one is in my present vehicle which has a custom built steel framed furniture which I have made strong enough to have a three point system.

The first conversion though was very easy to do.

Here is the Reimo conversion, I have no photos of the mechanics, but it was a very simple metal frame which slipped in side, had to take rear wardrobe out, then bolted on reel.

We made a bracket for ours and bolted it through the original seat belt point behind the 'ears', and made up a plate for the bottom of the bracket.
It's gone through MOTs without a problem.

Says who ??? I know your thread is about 3 point belts but i really dont like it when people say summits not safe when they are safe, some people will think "Aghh i have lap belts, there not safe coz he said" If lap belts were un-safe how can they be type approved and fitted in tonnes and tonnes of vehicles, I have 2 lap belts in the back of mine and have no worries at all about my lad and my missus girl in the back and wouldnt put there safety in question!!!!!!!!

James, as you say my posting was asking specifically about 3 pointers, so when the first reply mentions lap belts, my head was in my hands.

So many postings descend into waffle when people have asked specific questions.

If you are happy with your kids in lap belts, so be it. 99 out of 100 child car seats can't use these.

Now if you had put it was for kiddie car seats thats a different matter mine are big enought to not need um, you dont need booster seats for lap belts btw!

This is a great thread I would just like to say. Thanks Mr Banana! I'm thinking of fitting three point belts for my kids, so all photos and descriptions greatly appreciated.

Just to add on the lap belt note: I know of a young child in a lap belt who was in an accident, climbed out of the car fine after 'waking' his grandad up in the front, and died two days later of undiagnosed internal injuries. The cause - the lap belt cutting into his vital organs because there was nothing else to stop him.

Yes, I have and I ditched the cupboard as we decided that the extra space would be useful and I couldn't be arsed with cutting holes in it etc..
