I was having a fiddle about with the dash lights. Put it all back together and went to start the engine and all I get now is the light comes on for the glow plugs then the battery light and glow plug lights start strobing like some disco lights along with a ticking in the engine compartment from a black box on the left hand side. I taken pictures but I can't seem to post them up.

that would be the glowplug relay...
Mine clicks now and then and I have a spare just in case....
I would hazard a guess the during your exploratary delving around that you have somehow caused a bit of a loose connection......
I would whip it back out have another fiddle and see if that works.......

thanks for the reply lhd. I've gone back through everything I've done and the problem's still there. Does anyone have any ideas of how I've caused this loose connection and what I can do to sort it out? Other than keeping me away from electrical work which is what my wife suggested

Print out the following and stick it in the drivers window

"IF IT AIN'T BROKE.....DON'T FIX IT!"

check the earth wires nr the fuse box, and the connector block on the ignition switch......... and it could be just a coincidence, so check the relay in the engine bay too

make sure big multi connector under dash is pushed in properly

Learnt somethings today.
1. Always listen to the wife even though she knows less about cars than me.
2. Always check that the battery's got charge!
