Spark plugs

Ok, I went to Halfords and they told me which spark plugs to get, so I did... and when I got them home they don't fit because of the little metal doohicky on top... the old ones (which are multi-point, the new ones are single) haven't got that on, they just have the thread. Now I thought that little thingy comes off, I'm sure I can remember way back when I used to do my own spark plugs many years ago that they come off, but these won't. The plug fits in the hole, but the lead won't go on. So are they the right ones or not? 7310 B6ES it says on the box.
AND... is there an easy way of getting to the flipping things???

there is a difference between late and early, later ones have pins in the centre of the holes on the cap and coil, and the leads have corrisponding holes in the centre connectors, early ones have no pins, and connect around the outside of the lead connector, not in the centre of it........ the plugs are the same, but you remove the "nipples" from the thread to make them fit the later leads

Well I tried with a pair of pliers and I couldn't get them off!! I did think they came off though. Maybe I'll give it another go.
Thanks Steve the T. It's a 2 litre engine.

well if its Aircooled the plugs are correct, the leads are incorrect, late ones have the pins in the dissy cap and coil, early does not. It makes no difference, other than you need to be removing the nipples off the plugs.

They may not have removable "nipples"... is there a hole on the top of the nipple.. if not then most likely non removable..

to be fair, if you walked in and asked for the correct plugs for the vehicle, the plugs should have the nipples on........ its a Aircooled, not a late WBX..... cant really blame halfwits, as much as it pains me to say......

Still can't get them off... there's a hole... at least - you can see the thread that they go on through the middle of them if that's what you mean...
