Odd this, I've noticed the side ,head,rears,dash lights flicker at Idle and a faster flicker when reved but does'nt disappear....what could cause this?

battery sh@agged? ..it turns over OK.

voltameter showing 14.5v steady ,but the ammeter flickers off half an amp with the lights on, just , may be 0.2 or 0.3A,

It used to be steady

The only disturbance to the leccy has been the fitting of LPG

mmmmmmm.... Sounds like classic loose earth you've got there. As it affects all lights take a look at the battery earth strap/cable at both ends for tightness/security. Has it been moved when they fitted the leccy bits for the lpg system and it simply hasn't been tightened up.

1.OK.. Is it on the alternator ?(my haynes doesn't say)
2.What does it do?...er ..smooth out the voltage/current?
3.How does it work?
4.Can you test it?
5.If I do need one who'll have one?

I'm asking the obvious, coz I'm a control freak

80-90 is the best

the LPG conversion was nothing to do with this problem, it must have existed before it was converted, sorry for any implications in this steve

nice one kev! the regulator or recifier as they are also known in simple terms turns AC voltage in to DC voltage! the alternator creates an AC voltage! AC voltage can not be stored in a battery so we use a rectifier to change the ac to dc so that we can store the power in the battery and use it with out the alternator running, eg to spin the starter!!



it is simply four diodes, you put your AC accross 2 opposite corners of the rectifier and take dc from the other two!! you cant however make ac by putting in dc!! hope this helps!!
