I am hard wiring 240v into to my bus and need to make up the hook up lead.
I don't want to lug around the reel type extension lead, I want a lead that I can store in the engine room.
How long do you recommend for the hook up cable (10, 15 or 20m)?

over here the wiring regs say you must have a lead 25m ±2m long and made with a 3core 2.5mm flex!
i think mine is about that, but only becasue that was how much i found at work! the flex should also be a contrasting colour to that of the background it is most likely to be placed against, ie contrasting with grass colour!

Thanks guys,
I am ignoring the regs and going for 12 metres of rubber coated external quality three core.
It just so happens that I found some in the works skip, along with the correct three pin connector.
Just wish one of the RCD units would fall in the bin.

Dave, I wasn't aware of regs, re length of cable. Mine is only 3 miles long (just a bit of an exaggeration!). Seriously though, is there a simple link to a site which gives an outline of regulations? My set up was all checked by an electrician who knows nothing about the 25m length and contrasting colour. He agrees that it is a sensible idea but cannot find the said legislation. (Don't take this as a criticism please, or you won't get another cuppa!).
