A reg van bullet fuses
help with radiator fan electrics please!
haynes says fuse no.1 30A. But is this for the later one only? Our G reg velle with the blade fuses is exactly as haynes says. 1 thick red wire and one thinner red wire in the number one position with a green 30A balde fuse.
The A reg is entirely different. It has 12 fuses. Of the bullet variety. I number fuse 1 by the cab door, fuse 12 narest the steering wheel. I have 2 colours of fues - red and white. It also has one grey relay, marked 24. On big red wire goes into it.
Number 7,9,10 and 11 have a red fuse. There is a thick red wire heading off towards the steering wheel. Think this goes to number 9. number 9 then links to number 8 in thick red wire. But it also looks like a thick red wire goes into 8 as well?
What fuse should the radiator fan be on? VWcamperfan tested the radiator motor - got nowt. He and John followed the wires back form the fan through the bulkhead to the fuse box. Mark tested various connections with his voltmeter, and found a very poor connection which he remade. The fan then worked. Got both speeds when tested across the contacts as per haynes. Wicked, we thought...sorted!
Trouble was...we gave the fan a feed.....but had taken it away from the ignition somehow. Nowt - not a light, nothing when turned the key. But had 12v at alternator. John went back to fuse box, moved a red wire, and the van has started and run fine ever since. Looks like we put something wrong somewhere!
But now no fan again. (well it certainly didn't come on in traffic the other day and she got extremely hot!)
So, could some kind soul tell me where the fan should be please? And where the feed from the ignition should be as well, in case, in owners past, things are not as they should be!
Looking in the fuse box, the big thick wires are all red, except for one that is red with a fine yellow line I think?
Thanks in advance
