Two T25 Westfalia vans, one 1987 and one 1990.

Both have the same tyres sizes (185 14).

The reccommended tyre pressure for the 1987 Westfalia is 39 psi for the front and 43 psi for the rear (sticker on drivers door pillar).

The reccommended tyre pressure for the 1990 Westfalia is 43 psi for the front and 53 psi for the rear (sticker on drivers door pillar).

Could someone please explain why this should be?

Ours is the 1987 T25 and I'm tempted to go with the later recommendation by VW, but I want and need to know why the difference.

Anyone?

There are several pressure settings.. and yes to a degree it doesnt make sense... My 1983 caravelle has 43f 55r on the sticker.....

could it not be that the tyres , when it left the factory were of differnet spec, or make, so the recommended pressures are different?

If this is true, then unless exact "like for like" tyres are are used when the first set are finished, we are all probably running with the wrong tyre pressures - which could be potentially dangerous.

the label lists the different spec tyres... the make shouldnt have an influence... I think there was a continual development.. Check what the chassis plates say regarding unladen, gross and axle weights, tyre pressures normally depend on the calculation from max tyre load/pressure to what axle loads.. thats wht my #velle has higer pressure, it has the factory heavy duty suspension and gross at 2600 kgs...
