Yo folks.....

Has anyone seen/heard or done a conversion on an Aircooled that replaces the bhp sapping crank driven cooling fan with an electric one?

I would very much like to see some pictues if it's been done as to me it's a sensible mod that should be cheaper that a gas conversion to do considering the rocketing fuel prices....

on the T25 they are all driven on the end of the crank...

Not worth the effort and hassle and reliability.. you will still need to use power to generate the electricity to power the fan... that is in fact far less efficient wat to cool an engine.... put the money towards an LPG conversion..

You'd need a massive alternator to supply an electric fan that would replace the mechanical.
The CT and T4 fans are the most efficient stock fans because they don't waste power in transferring motion. Ie. Stuck on the front of the crank, no belt loss. Fan on the alternator runs the heaters so no cooling loss.
If you want a little saving... Remover the blower fan from the alternator.

2 years ago I built a CT with 1966cc, C35 cam and 040 heads.40 drla's 84BHP
Re-did it this year with 043 (40/35) heads and 1.25 rockers and the alternator fan removed- 113 bhp. 30 MPG with Cogbox high ratio box
(100mph = 4,000 rpm)

043 heads needed 3 hours work to get the ports open though.
